![]() What emerged was a thriving Petz scene, just when internet subcultures were first beginning. So you could create a website and use official, approved images, backgrounds, and headings. They encouraged users to create their own websites by providing free. P.F Magic loved interacting with their players. One day, I logged on after school, and the giant, totally-not-subtle heart appeared (again, nearly crashing my computer). Did she have the babies yet? Did she? The gestation period for a virtual dog is quite a bit shorter than an actual dog, but it felt like an age to me. I’d get home from school and boot up the computer in tremulous anticipation. ![]() Let me tell you, I checked on that dog (which now waddled and looked sleepy, not an inaccurate representation of pregnancy) every single day. (In a very PG way, obviously.) I vividly remember it: spraying my dogs (not Shadow and Chance) with copious amounts of love potion until an enormous red heart erupted across the screen, nearly crashing my computer. ![]() Then Petz 3 arrived, and with it, the chance to BREED YOUR FREAKING PETZ. (The letter ‘Z’ was a thing back then.) You could even go on the Petz website and download extra items for them, providing you had 5MB of space and an hour to kill. You could take them into different locations, called PlayScenez. ![]() I got two dogs (less skittish, a little more goofy). Suddenly, you could have more than one pet at a time! Bonus. Every time I switched on the PC, I checked on my cat. In the Tamagotchi-era of the mid-nineties, this was an absolute dream.
